Sandwip is an island along the southeastern coast of Bangladesh in the Chittagong District. Also spelled Sandvip, the transliteration of the name would in fact be Shondip. It is part of the sub-district of Sandwip Upazila. 

Sandwip Island is to be attracted by its uniqueness it is a river island. Situated in the Meghna river estuary, the island is 50 km in length and 5-15 km in width. The scientists are in agreement that four to five years back the land size was seven to eight times bigger than the current size. Four million people live there. Lately, the island has become popular with adventurous people who choose this site for camping. The only way to reach the island is by water. There is a beach and a number of restaurants serving fish, chicken, and veggies.

It is at the estuary of the Meghna River on the Bay of Bengal and separated from the Chittagong coast by Sandwip Channel. It is on the north-east side of the Bay of Bengal, near the main port city of Chittagong. It is bounded by Companiganj on the north, Bay of Bengal on the south, Sitakunda and Mirsharai, and Sandwip Channel on the east, Noakhali Sadar, Hatiya and Meghna estuary on the west.

There are also various traditional places to visit on the island. In the north of the island, you can see the hundred-year-old Mariam Bibi Sahebani Mosque built on following the architecture of Taj Mahal. There are large Dighi adjacent to the mosque, and the shrine. In the south of the island, there is the traditional dry Dighi. There are also numerous mosques, schools, madrasas, large playgrounds. If you have good luck, you can enjoy the songs of the Baul singer (The local cultural song of Bengal). Further, you can also watch and enjoy on the north side of Sandwip, Amanular Char, northeast, Uri Char, Kalapani, on the south, Kalia Char.
