Bangladesh National Museum

Bangladesh National Museum is one of the splendid collections from the largest museums in South Asia, having pre-history to present time. The museum is extremely rich in stone, metal, and wooden sculptures, in gold, silver and copper coins, terracotta and other artifacts and antiquities. It is located in the Shahbag area in Dhaka city


History


Bangladesh National Museum was originally established on 20 March 1913, albeit under another name (the Dhaka Museum), and formally inaugurated on 7 August 1913 by Thomas Gibson-Carmichael, 1st Baron Carmichael, the governor of Bengal. In July 1915 it was handed over to the Naib-Nazim of Dhaka. Bangladesh National Museum was formed through the incorporation of the Dhaka museum and it was made the national museum of Bangladesh on 17 November 1983. It is located at Shahbag, Dhaka.


How To Go

The National Museum can be reached by any bus from Gulistan, Motijheel, Shahbag, Gabtali, Mirpur, or Tongi to Shahbag in Dhaka. Anyone can visit by road with taxi/three-wheeler/bus from anywhere in Dhaka.
