Teesta Barrage: Dam with a view

Bangladesh is a riverine country and blessed with the natural beauty of those rivers. Significantly they add more to the beautification of Bangladesh. Teesta is one of them and it is a 315 kilometres long river that rises from the eastern Himalayas and flows through Sikkim (West Bengal) and Bangladesh and then enters the Bay of Bengal. Whenever we are talking regarding the Teesta River, we cannot miss the Teesta barrage because it incorporates a distinctive view and wonders further as a must-visit for nature lovers.

How the Barrage looks

Teesta Barrage is placed on Teesta River at Duani in Hatibandha upazila in Lalmonirhat. The barrage is a 615m lengthy concrete shape geared up with forty-four radial gates having a discharge potential of 12,750 cusec of water. It is used to divert 280 cusecs of water for irrigation through a canal starting up at the proper bank. The production of the barrage began in 1979 and finished in 1997-98.

Why visiting the Barrage

For people who enjoy boat riding or love the riverside environment, then the Teesta barrage can be the best option for them. Speed boats and normal boats are available there for riding purposes. Furthermore, the most appealing part of this river is that the water is deep blue/green/turquoise, betting on how the daylight hits it. At some points, it's like it's hardly moving, and in different places, the rapids are rolling. The view can be enjoyed from both the barrage and boat ride in the river. Moreover, there is a park beside it and the environment there is really very soothing. A better place for picnic and family time.

Oboshor Resthouse

The rest house is located in Teesta barrage, Barakhata. To be more specific, Dalia-jhaldhaka Road.  It’s an area with the nearest river aspect park. The annual picnic of BWDB is organized here. This vicinity is large. It has floors. On the ground floor, there's a large convention room for BWDB and additional rooms for the guests. There is a dining room on the 1st floor. The surroundings of this vicinity are simply too calm as you may locate serenity here. The breeze beside the river is peaceful.

How to go and What to eat

If the traveller is travelling from Dhaka, he can get Nabil Parbahan, SR travels, Rozina enterprise etc and it may take 9 hours to reach Lalmonirhat. After reaching the Lalmonirhat there are several hotels to stay. A car or taxi can be hired to reach Duani.

For lunch and dinner purposes the visitors have to go to the next hotel where they can find various types of food.
